Well, it is about to feel like winter here in the WLFI viewing area as soon as next week!!! YES!!!! FINALLY!!! lol :) As you can probably tell I can't wait to get talking about it! But first I must talk about today's forecast and what we have to expect along with another day of Winter Weather Preparedness Week. So lets get to it!!

Today we will look for partly cloudy skies and dry weather. Highs will be in the lower 50s around 52* degrees with lows in the low 30s around freezing, 33* degrees. We may be a little breezy at time's today with winds blowing between 10 and 15 mph with a few gusts near 20 mph possible.

Now the topic for today's winter weather preparedness week is "Winter Weather Safety For Schools". Take a look below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TODAY WE WILL LOOK AT WINTER WEATHER SAFETY FOR SCHOOLS.
THE INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION PLANS PROVIDE FOR AS SAFE AN
ENVIRONMENT AS POSSIBLE FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN. MOST SCHOOL SYSTEMS HAVE SEVERAL SOURCES FOR WEATHER INFORMATION...INCLUDING NOAA WEATHER RADIO...LOCAL RADIO AND TELEVISION...AND INTERNET OR PAGING SERVICES.
SCHOOLS HAVE A PLAN ON DELAYING...EARLY DISMISSAL OR CANCELLING
SCHOOL BASED ON FORECAST OR OBSERVED WEATHER AND ROAD CONDITIONS. WEATHER WATCHES USUALLY PROMPT DISCUSSION OF PLANS. ACTUAL CONDITIONS OR WINTER WEATHER WARNINGS OR WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES WILL USUALLY PROMPT DELAYS...EARLY CLOSURES OR CANCELLATIONS. TEMPERATURE... SNOW...FREEZING RAIN OR ROAD CONDITIONS DETERMINE A SCHOOL/S COURSE OF ACTION.
BEFORE SCHOOL...LOCAL RADIO AND TELEVISION STATIONS CARRY INFORMATION ON SCHOOL PLANS AS WELL AS PLANS FOR OTHER ORGANIZATIONS. OFTEN SCHOOL OFFICIALS WILL TEST ROAD CONDITIONS THEMSELVES BEFORE MAKING DECISIONS.
MOST SCHOOLS HAVE MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS FOR BUS DRIVERS AND ANNOUNCE TO TEACHERS AND STUDENTS AT SCHOOL ANY PLANS DIFFERING FROM NORMAL. SCHOOL OFFICIALS AND BUS DRIVERS ARE IN COMMUNICATION IF WEATHER OR ROAD CONDITIONS REQUIRE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE OF TRAVEL. SCHOOL OFFICIALS AND BUS DRIVERS ARE ALSO AWARE OF THE SIGNS OF HYPOTHERMIA OR FROSTBITE IN CASE CHILDREN HAVE TO WAIT A LONG TIME AT BUS STOPS.
SO MONITORING FORECASTS AND SCHOOL PLANS THROUGH THE MEDIA OR SCHOOL WEB SITES WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON SCHOOL PLANS.
ON SATURDAY...WE WILL REVIEW KEY POINTS FOR PREPAREDNESS.
Now yesterday I said that I would have your Thanksgiving day forecast up and posted! But did I come through?? You know it! ;) And I have to say that right at this point and time I'm LOVING this Thanksgiving forecast!! lol Take a look at this below and see why!
Yes, you seen that right! I'm calling for some possible snow showers on Thanksgiving day. With bitter bitter cold temperatures! So let me break this down for you. Starting on Sunday we will have a brief warm up into the low 60s between 60* and 65* degrees between Sunday and Monday. Then after Monday we will start to drop back to near normal temperatures which is around 50* degrees. However come Thanksgiving we will fall into the low 30s as our highs with lows near the teens. We are expected to have a rain system move through the area next week. ((Details On The Rain Next Week Will Be Posted Later)) I believe that we will see precipitation the night before Thanksgiving in the form of rain only to change over to all snow by Thanksgiving morning. Nothing adding up to anything this time around however snow showers are in the forecast at this time! :) Of course I will have the break down on this rain to move in come next week!
Now here's your full Thanksgiving day forecast below.
Thanksgiving we will look for a few scattered snow flurries / snow showers through out the WLFI viewing area. Otherwise Mostly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the lower 30s around 35* degrees with lows Thanksgiving night near the teens around 23* degrees. Overall it will be a GREAT day to stay inside and eat turkey, and Watch Football, or whatever you do with all your loved ones that's for sure! And if your heading out to do some early morning shopping on Black Friday then be sure to dress warm! As morning temperatures will be in the LOW 20s! ;)
